An expansive Agra in wool, this antique rug presents a dense all-over floral lattice rendered in deep madder red, soft sage green and warm neutrals. The large 9' 7" x 20' 4" field reads as a tapestry of palmettes, rosettes and meandering vines, motifs patiently arranged across a generous span. Low distress preserves a supple hand; gentle abrash and mellowed pile lend subtle depth to the color. Borders repeat the floral vocabulary in a measured frame, the overall presence refined and tactile. Its scale and restraint reveal careful workshop practice. Circa 1885 - 1915
