This Mahal is a quietly luminous wool antique rug measuring 7' 4" x 10' 2". The field reads as pale blue with soft green undertones, punctuated by warm rust and muted gold palmettes and scrolling vines. A multi-band border frames the allover floral arabesque with restrained geometric corners, the whole softened by even abrash and medium wear. The pile shows a tactile, low-sheen surface and gentle surface losses that reveal layered color beneath, a patina developed over decades. Circa 1900 - 1915. The composition balances formal Mahal scale with a weathered intimacy that speaks to patient craft and time.
