A large Mahal in wool, this antique rug reads as a layered field of tiny floral lattices and a softened medallion that emerges through timeworn colour. The expansive 13' 9" x 22' 10" scale allows the complex borders and guard stripes to breathe; warm browns, cream highlights and neutral bleached areas create a tactile, lived-in surface. Medium distress produces mottled abrash and scattered low spots that reveal earlier palettes beneath. Circa 1900 - 1920, this Mahal carries the worn elegance of careful use, where texture and faded pattern become the primary evidence of the rug’s craft and age.
