A soft, timeworn Mahal worked in wool, this antique rug presents a faded central lozenge that floats within an overscale field of scrolling palmettes and arabesque vines. The palette reads as warm neutrals warmed by muted greens and aged blues, the colors mellowed by decades of light and use. Surface abrash and medium distress lend a layered, tactile patina to the weave while the wide floral border holds a quieter, complementary rhythm. Circa 1880 - 1900. Measurements: 8' 10" x 13' 3". The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
