An expansive Mahal in worn, low-contrast tones, this antique rug measures 17' 3" x 24' 9". The wool field carries an allover arabesque lattice and a soft suggestion of a central repeat, now blurred by high wear and surface abrash. Deep red guard borders retain geometric motifs that frame the neutral, brown-dominant ground. The hand-aged surface reads tactile and lived-in, with threadbare highlights that make the pattern read like a faded memory. Circa 1880 - 1895. The scale and restrained palette emphasize the craft of long-loom weaving, offering a quietly patinated presence rooted in time and material.
