A Mallayer antique rug in wool, 10' 3" x 13' 0", that balances a saturated red field with warm brown ground and neutral highlights. The allover arrangement of cartouche-like medallions and small floral fillers reads as a measured, painterly repetition, punctuated by occasional soft blue accents and an ivory foliate border. Low distress preserves a tactile, slightly worn surface and gentle abrash that deepen the color ranges. The hand of traditional village weaving is evident in the rhythmic motifs and the layered, time-softened palette. It retains a calm, assured presence that reads equally refined and lived.
