An Agra woven with a whisper of age, this antique rug (10' 0" x 17' 5") reads as a finely worked allover of petite floral cartouches and a layered palmette border. The wool pile has settled to a soft hand, the red, brown and gold tones mellowed by even fading and pleasing abrash. Medium distress reveals a lived-in surface and gentle edge softening that underline its craft and timeworn patina. Circa 1885 - 1900, the piece feels quietly architectural, its measured scale and dense motifing speaking to disciplined design and slow, tactile wear.
