A quietly luminous Mahal in wool, its surface softened to a warm wash of red, pink and neutral tones. The 6' 9" x 10' 4" field reads as a faded floral allover, the borders reduced to ribboned echoes by loss of color and pile. High distress and pronounced abrash create a tactile, painterly surface where pattern and ground blur into one another. The piece reads as an antique rug with a layered patina of use and time, the faded reds and dusty pinks retaining a subtle warmth. Circa 1900 - 1920.
