This Mahal presents a large, all-over floral field in a restrained palette of slate-blue, faded red and cream. The wool shows a soft, worn nap and layered abrash that reads like time-worn paint; medallions and scrolling palmettes emerge and recede across the surface. The borders retain fine floral guards though pile loss and surface wear register a medium distress that is integral to its character. This 10' 2" x 17' 0" antique rug reads as a tactile archive of use and craft, its color harmonies and gentle fraying suggesting long life. Circa 1885 - 1905
