This expansive Mahal reads as a wash of muted red warmed by brown and neutral highlights. At 11' 2" x 17' 2" the field carries a dense network of palmettes and small botanical motifs framed by a broad, multi-band border. The wool has softened with age; surface abrash and medium wear give the piece a layered, tactile patina. There are discrete repairs and softened edges, yet the overall geometry and repeating motifs remain clear. Circa 1915 - 1930, this antique rug has the quiet authority of a lived-in heritage textile.
