An imposing Heriz in wool, this antique rug measures 9' 10" x 12' 9" and centres on a bold geometric medallion set into a deep red field softened by cream and neutral accents. Angular palmettes and stepped cartouches articulate the field while a layered foliate border frames the composition. The pile shows low, even wear and a gentle abrash that adds depth to the color; edges are sound with modest fringe. Circa 1910 - 1925. The piece reads as architectural and tactile, its deliberate geometry and timeworn hand revealing the craft of traditional Heriz weaving.
