This Mahal antique rug, measuring 12' 2" x 20' 6", carries an allover field of floral and vine scrolls softened by time into a quiet, layered ground. The border system remains legible, with a fuller outer band framing the more delicate interior pattern. Wool gives the surface a supple, lived-in hand, while the palette of neutral brown, cream, and white reads as restrained and atmospheric. High distress has blurred the motifs in places, creating depth rather than uniformity. Circa 1900 - 1930, it reflects the enduring grace of a Mahal design language, with age and wear woven into its character.
