This Mahal antique rug measures 14' 2" x 17' 2" and presents an expansive allover floral field in faded blue, red, brown, and ivory. Repeating palmettes, vine scrolls, and small blossoms drift across the centre, held by a finely worked floral border that remains readable despite the softened surface. The wool has a mellow, timeworn hand, with visible abrasion and light fading that temper the palette and deepen its quiet texture. Circa 1885 - 1900, it carries the balanced, layered character associated with Mahal weaving, where ornament and wear meet in a restrained, atmospheric composition.
