This Mahal antique rug, measuring 9' 9" x 16' 11", carries a time-softened field of layered ornament and a quietly architectural sense of balance. A large central geometric form is dissolved by allover floral pattern, while the border chain keeps the composition grounded. The palette moves through faded rust, tobacco brown, muted sage, pale aqua, ivory, and taupe, with the surface worn to a mellow, tactile sheen. Circa 1920 - 1935, it reads as both formal and deeply lived-in, with age lending clarity to its softened lines and weathered character.
