This Mallayer antique rug measures 3' 1" x 12' 10" and carries a long, narrow profile with a timeworn palette of ivory, taupe, brown, and muted teal. The field is filled with layered floral arabesques and a central medallion arrangement, framed by a restrained inner border and a more decorative outer border. Considerable surface wear and fading soften the contrasts, giving the design a quiet, weathered depth. Circa 1900 - 1920, it reflects the graceful ornament and lived-in patina associated with Mallayer weaving. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
