This Mallayer antique rug measures 4' 10" x 10' 9" and carries a timeworn, architectural patterning softened by age. An all-over field of nested diamonds and repeating medallion forms unfolds within a restrained floral border, while neutral ground tones are enlivened by brown, muted green, and rust red accents. Strong distress and fading have opened the composition into luminous passages of wear, giving the surface a dry, layered texture. Circa 1880 - 1900, it reads as both structured and atmospheric, with the quiet depth that defines a well-aged Mallayer. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
