A Kashan in wool, generously scaled at 10' 3" x 18' 8", this antique rug presents an expansive red field enlivened by cream and pale-blue highlights. The composition is an all-over floral lattice, palmettes, scrolling vines and small rosettes, framed by a richly patterned navy border that clarifies the design. Surface wear is modest, revealing a soft patina and gentle abrash that animate the colour and pile. The tactile wool gives the pattern a lived-in depth and a quiet, historic presence. Circa 1890 - 1910. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
