This wool tapestry, 2' 10" x 3' 9", presents a miniature pastoral tableau rendered in soft neutrals, browned gold and faded rose. A woven faux-frame border contains the scene while a courting couple and landscape read with painterly softness. The surface shows medium distress and visible abrash, the wool pile softened where highlights once were; edges are gently frayed but intact. The brushlike handling and muted palette suggest late nineteenth to early twentieth century manufacture. Circa 1880 - 1900. This antique rug carries a tactile sense of age and quiet theatricality, a study in timeworn craft and restraint.
