A large Bakhtiari in wool, this antique rug reads as an exercised study in repetition and patina. Rows of scalloped medallions float across an ivory field, each medallion centred in warm rust and gold and set against a mellow brown ground. The outer borders carry a quieter palette with touches of muted turquoise and floral vine motifs. Surface abrash and areas of medium wear lend a soft, tactile presence to the weave. The scale is generous at 17' 5" x 20' 5" and the finish retains a quietly timeworn elegance. Circa 1900 - 1920.
