A generous Tabriz in wool, this antique rug reads as a closely worked floral rug in a restrained neutral palette. At 13' 0" x 19' 5", the design is a rhythmic, allover lattice of rosettes, palmettes and small circular medallions threaded by vine tendrils. The surface shows low distress; the pile is mellowed with age while the drawing remains clear and articulate, borders holding their defined register. The hand is warm and tactile, the layered tonal harmonies revealing long use and careful craft. Circa 1900 - 1915. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
