A large Tabriz rendered in soft wool, this antique rug presents a faded neutral field punctuated by a refined floral medallion and an elongated octagonal cartouche. Rich red corner spandrels and a broad red border of scrolling vines and palmettes frame the composition, the white and cream highlights lending a quiet, aged contrast. Surface wear and subtle abrash have mellowed the palette and sharpen the sense of history. The piece carries an assured, tactile presence at 14' 3" x 17' 7" while remaining distinctly crafted in traditional Tabriz manner. Circa 1900 - 1915.
