A pale, painterly Chainstitch of considerable scale, this antique rug reads like an embroidered field of roses and wild sprays across a cream ground. At 13' 0" x 28' 9" the wool holds a soft, brushed surface where peach and sage motifs breathe within a low-contrast scrolling border. Time has mellowed the palette into warm ivories and beige, lending a tactile patina to the floral composition. Circa 1880 - 1900. Even and gentle abrasion accentuates the hand-drawn motif work; the restrained palette and delicate surface give this Chainstitch a quietly refined, heritage-aware presence.
