An elegant Mallayer runner in wool, this antique rug measures 5' 7" x 14' 9". A restrained central medallion drifts through a dense, softly stippled field where muted brown and neutral tones mingle with cream highlights. The stepped spandrels and a narrow border of repeated geometrical cartouches frame the composition; fine floral and vine motifs give texture without symmetry. Surface wear and even fading lend a lived-in patina and subtle abrash across the field, registering medium distress while preserving the weave's graphic clarity. Circa 1895 - 1915.
