A Tabriz of considerable scale, this wool antique rug measures 13' 0" x 18' 6". A central medallion and stepped corner spandrels unfold across a softly faded field, rendered in neutral and blue with cream and white highlights. The design is finely drawn, flowering vines, palmettes and a layered floral border, now tempered by even, painterly wear. Surface abrash and softened colors read as a long-lived patina, the medium distress lending texture and depth to the weave. The atmosphere is refined and tactile, a piece that reads as both object and history. Circa 1920 - 1935
