This wool Tapestry measures 9' 5" x 9' 0" and presents a figural pastoral scene in a restrained palette of golds, blues and greens. Figures gather beside a river beneath a canopy of trees, the scene contained by a sculpted floral border. Surface abrasion and softened wool lend a painterly patina to the imagery; areas of abrash and moderated loss reveal age without obscuring the composition. The piece reads as an antique rug and a textile study in layered shading and vegetal ornament, its worn surface holding a quiet, tactile presence. Circa 1850 - 1870
