This Chinese wool rug presents a saturated navy field threaded with aubergine and midnight blue, punctuated by painterly floral sprays that climb from the corners toward the center. A narrow burgundy inner stripe frames the ground while a soft cream outer border carries sinuous vines and scattered blossoms in pastel pink, green and sky blue. Low distress and an even wool pile preserve a velvety hand and a subtle sheen; fine abrash gives the field a lived, luminous depth. This antique rug has a composed, textile-like presence. Circa 1905 - 1920. Measurements: 6' 0" x 8' 7".
