A muted Tabriz in wool, 13' 5" x 17' 5", this antique rug reads like a softened study in neutral brown, cream and white. A central medallion sits inside layered mihrab-shaped fields; the dense small-scale floral ground has been gently smoothed by time. A wide floral arabesque border frames the composition, its motifs mellowed and finely worn at the high points. The piece shows medium distress with subtle abrash and overall fading that reveals the rug's long life and hands-on care. Tactile and quietly architectural, it carries the layered patina of use and craft. Circa 1920 - 1935.
