A compact Needle Point in wool, this 2' 0" x 2' 0" antique rug reads as a study in restrained colour and handwork. A central bouquet of layered blues is framed by a looping ribbon cartouche and paired bows, the design set against a warm neutral ground. The blues show painterly abrash and tonal variation, while wool texture remains tactile under light wear. Edges are softened and the fringe shows age-appropriate fraying, lending a quiet, lived-in presence that emphasizes craft and time. Circa 1850 - 1870.
