An intimate Needle Point panel in wool, this 1' 10" x 1' 10" antique rug presents a romantic figural vignette framed by flowing floral scrolls and stylised birds. The restrained palette of cream and pale pink is layered over warm neutrals and soft grey-blue highlights; heavy wear has softened the design into a painterly surface. Areas of thread loss and frayed edges create a measured abrash that reads as part of the piece's history. Circa 1865 - 1880.
