This Mallayer antique rug measures 4' 0" x 7' 0" and carries a warm red field softened by ivory, taupe, muted green, and gold accents. The composition feels tightly ordered yet richly textural, with a layered central medallion, stepped geometric forms, and a border of small floral and angular motifs that frame the field with quiet rhythm. Visible wear has mellowed the surface and introduced subtle abrash, adding depth to the wool pile. Circa 1885 - 1900, it reflects the restrained elegance and lived-in character that make Mallayer weaving so enduring.
