This Mallayer antique rug, 8' 6" x 10' 5", carries a softly weathered field in blue-grey and neutral tones, framed by a rust red and brown border with ivory accents. The allover floral lattice is refined yet relaxed, with small-scale motifs that read through a veil of wear and gentle fading. Its surface shows the character of use, including abrasion and softened colour transitions, which lend depth to the composition. Circa 1885 - 1900, it reflects the balanced ornament and timeworn elegance associated with Mallayer weaving. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
