This Mallayer antique rug measures 10' 10" x 14' 1" and presents a finely worked allover field in softened taupe, beige, and ivory, with quiet touches of blue and grey. The composition is dense yet balanced, framed by a formal border of floral and foliate motifs that lends structure to the faded ground. Wool pile gives the surface a tactile, aged hand, while medium distress softens the outlines and deepens the sense of history. Circa 1895 - 1910, it carries the restrained elegance and layered patterning associated with Mallayer weaving.
