This Mallayer antique rug measures 3' 2" x 9' 9" and presents a long, grounded field softened by age. The brick red ground is layered with faded rose and navy ornament, framed by a narrow geometric border that keeps the composition taut and orderly. Repeating floral and boteh-inspired motifs run through the centre with a worn, painterly rhythm, while areas of abrasion and fading lend a quiet, timeworn tactility. Circa 1890 - 1905, it reflects the restrained elegance and visual depth often associated with Mallayer weaving. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
