This Mallayer antique rug measures 11' 0" x 13' 1" and presents a richly worn field in weathered blue, rust red, cream, and muted brown. An expressive allover floral layout is framed by a layered border system and anchored by a strong geometric medallion that softens into the surrounding ornament. The surface shows medium distress, with faded passages, abrash-like variation, and a lived-in, matte hand that gives the composition depth and restraint. Circa 1880 - 1900, it carries the timeworn balance and textural nuance that define the most compelling Mallayer weaving.
