This Mallayer antique rug measures 7' 5" x 17' 1" and presents a long, time-softened field of layered geometric ornament in muted brown, cream, white, and faded blue tones. The composition feels richly compressed, with a central medallion form emerging through years of wear and a finely worked border that frames the whole with restrained rhythm. Wool lends the surface a dry, lived-in hand and a quietly tactile presence. Circa 1885 - 1900, the palette has mellowed into a balanced register of neutral earth shades, allowing the pattern’s depth and fading to read with particular clarity.
