This Mallayer antique rug, measuring 6' 7" x 16' 9", carries a richly layered field of floral and geometric motifs within a series of narrow borders. Wool in a restrained palette of brown, rust, cream, ivory, muted sage, and charcoal gives the surface an aged, atmospheric depth. Areas of pronounced wear and fading soften the pattern without erasing its rhythm, allowing the design to read as both intricate and quiet. Circa 1880 - 1895, it reflects the long, narrow proportions and decorative density associated with the Mallayer tradition. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
