Afshar antique rug, 3' 1" x 3' 4", woven in wool with a deep navy field animated by madder red, rust, ochre, ivory, and teal. The lattice layout gathers stylised boteh forms into a compact, rhythmic composition, while the layered borders add a measured geometric frame. Small-scale drawing and softened colour lend the piece a grounded, timeworn presence. Visible wear has gently relaxed the surface, allowing the motif to read with added tactility. Circa 1880 - 1900, this Afshar carries the intimacy and structure associated with village weaving. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
