This Mallayer antique rug, measuring 4' 1" x 6' 4", is woven in wool and carries a richly layered palette of deep red, brown, ivory, and muted blue. The field is arranged with intricate geometric medallions, floral details, and stepped forms, all held within a narrow border that adds definition without interrupting the rhythm. Its low distress level shows in the softening of the colours and the lightly worn surface, which gives the piece a grounded, timeworn presence. Circa 1890 - 1910. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
