This Sarab antique rug, 2' 6" x 10' 3", carries a long, column-like field of stepped geometric medallions and a finely worked border in softened blue, cream, and neutral tones. The wool pile shows pronounced age, with areas of fading that lend the surface a silvery, timeworn character. Repeated floral and angular details hold onto the structure of the design even as the pattern has gently dissolved with wear. Circa 1915 - 1945, it reflects the calm restraint and graphic discipline associated with Sarab weaving, while remaining tactile and atmospheric.
