This Mallayer antique rug, measuring 12' 9" x 27' 4", presents a long, layered composition with a blue-ground field softened by cream, brown, rust, and muted gold accents. Repeating medallions and geometric latticework are framed by floral border bands, while the border ornament remains legible despite the worn, washed surface. The wool pile shows medium distress, with fading and abrasion that lend the piece a quiet, atmospheric depth. Circa 1885 - 1900, it reads as both structured and faded, balancing pattern density with a softly weathered hand. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
