This Mallayer antique rug measures 13' 6" x 21' 11" and reads with a layered, timeworn clarity that feels both formal and atmospheric. A large medallion anchors the composition, surrounded by a dense field of small-scale floral and geometric motifs in red, brown, and faded blue over a neutral ground. The borders are richly worked yet softened by wear, allowing the design to drift between definition and patina. Circa 1885 - 1900, it carries a medium distress level that deepens its texture without obscuring the underlying structure. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
