This Mallayer antique rug measures 6' 5" x 11' 5" and carries a timeworn, atmospheric field softened by age. A muted sage ground is layered with rust, ivory, taupe, and brown, allowing the floral and geometric motifs to surface and recede in equal measure. The border remains just visible at the perimeter, framing the composition without interrupting its worn calm. Circa 1885 - 1900, it reads as grounded and quietly graphic, with extensive fading that gives the surface a beautifully erased character. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
