This Mallayer antique rug, measuring 13' 4" x 23' 4", carries a quietly layered field of floral scrollwork beneath a worn, luminous surface. The neutral ground is softened with grey, taupe, ivory, and traces of muted blue, while the border holds onto its formal rhythm even as the interior pattern has been gently dissolved by age. High distress gives the piece a weathered, atmospheric presence, with broad fading and visible abrasion throughout. Circa 1885 - 1900, it reads as both refined and deeply lived-with, a Mallayer with an understated sense of scale and depth.
