This Mallayer antique rug, measuring 13' 4" x 26' 6", carries a washed field of cream and white, lifted by pale blue, muted navy, and traces of warm rust. The composition reads as an allover arrangement of medallion fragments and geometric panels, framed by a finely worked border that still holds its rhythm despite heavy fade. Circa 1880 - 1900, the surface has a soft, lived-in restraint, with high distress that blurs the pattern into a layered, atmospheric field. Its worn character feels balanced and intentional, revealing depth through quiet tonal shifts rather than sharp contrast.
