This Mallayer antique rug measures 2' 11" x 14' 10" and reads with the quiet depth of time. A faded cream and brown ground supports an all-over floral field, where palmettes, vines, and latticework emerge and recede beneath a softly abraded surface. The narrow border frames the composition with subdued ornament, while traces of rust and olive add warmth to the neutral palette. With medium distress and a naturally worn hand, it carries the layered character of a well-aged woven textile. Circa 1905 - 1920. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
