This Mallayer antique rug measures 6' 9" x 16' 2" and presents an elongated field of finely worked ornament in brown, gold, ivory, and muted blue. An allover lattice of floral and vine forms runs through the centre, while the border balances the composition with crisp geometric bands and small-scale detail. The palette has softened gracefully, with age lending warmth and depth rather than obscuring the pattern. Circa 1885 - 1900, it carries a grounded, collected presence and the quiet irregularities expected of a low-distress antique rug. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
