A restrained Khotan in wool, this antique rug reads as a study in tonal depth and meticulous repeat. A vertical chain of lozenge medallions anchors a deep brown field populated with small hex and shield motifs, while an ivory floral border frames the composition. Warm rust and gold highlights and touches of cobalt articulate the hand-drawn motifs. Low distress preserves strong pattern definition; subtle abrash and soft surface wear lend a gentle patina and tactile warmth. Measures 6' 3" x 11' 6" and retains an assured, heritage presence. Circa 1900 - 1915.
