This Sultanabad presents an open, floral-lattice composition worked in wool, its 11' 0" x 14' 10" proportions bringing a generous, classical scale. The deep red ground has softened to a warm, worn field; large palmettes and meandering vines read in blues, creams and neutrals against a sky-blue guard border. Surface abrash and medium deterioration have lifted pile and washed back colour in places, lending tactile patina to the weave. The piece reads as an antique rug with evident history, its hand of time visible in softened edges and faded motifs. Circa 1890 - 1910
