This Sultanabad presents a warm rust field enlivened by a turquoise-teal border and ivory palmettes, woven in wool with a softly worn surface. Intricate palmettes, linked octagonal medallions and scrolling arabesques create an allover composition that reads both structured and painterly. The palette, rust, teal, ivory and brown, shows subtle abrash and a low level of distress, giving the piece a refined patina. An antique rug of measured scale, it is 7' 10" x 11' 4" in size. Circa 1895 - 1915. The tactile pile and balanced colour harmonies speak to sustained craft and considered drawing.
