A muted Sultanabad in wool, this antique rug measures 12' 4" x 19' 11" and reads as a broad, weathered brown field layered with ivory and pale slate highlights. The original floral ground has been softened into an almost monochrome texture, while a narrow palmette-and-vine border remains visible as a ghosted frame. Surface abrasion and dispersed thinning produce a low-relief nap and pronounced abrash that emphasize the rug’s history and material tactility. The overall effect is quietly architectural, a large-scale rug where patina and craft speak through restraint. Circa 1900 - 1930
